A day in Kerala: Sunrise to Sunset

Life is a beach: A day in Kerala

We were so exited to explore life around our hotel, that me, Shawn and Emanuel decided to meet early morning and go to the beach on Poovar island where we were guests at Estuary Island.

Emanuel was so excited that he was in hotel lobby a full hour ahead of the decided time. We crossed the estuary in a boat at reached the beach. But the hard working fishermen of Kerala have beaten us to the beach and they were busy pulling back their nets from the water. Nobody had time to pose for our cameras, which was fine for us as we did not wanted to disturb them in their work.

One of the Old Fisherman was a bit upset at all the attention we were giving him, but when I told him my friend Emanuel is from Italy, and will show his pictures to friends and family in Italy he mellowed down.

While the elders were busy catching fish, boys were busy playing ” Catch me if you can on the beach”.One of the guys on seeing my camera gestured me to click his photo and happily posed.

I was wondering if he would ask for any money for posing for the picture, but I was wrong he just smiled on seeing his pictures and muttered something in Malayalam and walked away with a big grin on his face. No money exchanged. Priceless.

The day was spent understanding about Ayurveda treatments for which Kerala is world-famous and people from all over world visit Kerala to experience the healing powers of Ayurveda and various massages that heal you from within.

My highlight of the day was to see some money exchange between a tourist and a fruit seller on a beach. There were some negotiation but then both walked away happily. The little trickle down of money coming to the country courtesy Inbound Tourism.

At the end of the day we visited Leela Hotel, to watch the sunset. I will stop writing here and let you see the pictures of Sunset, with the clear disclaimer that” The real sunset was much better and you need to Visit Kerala to personally experience some of the best sunsets you will ever see.
